In 2023, this will be the second Christmas at war for Ukrainians. But the first celebrates December 25, according to the Gregorian calendar. In July, President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a law changing the dates of several national celebrations, including Christmas. Ukraine, where most of the population is Orthodox Christian, had the Julian calendar as a reference. This specificity is explained by the supervision exercised by Russia over the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, now independent of Moscow.
