In the pages of Teleramaof New Obs and World, the book is essential. It inspires critics, who enjoy dissecting it, noting the content, the colors, the rough edges. It informs journalists, who use it to shed light on social, political or international news, and cites it to invite readers to continue their reflection. The book, rich in beauty and knowledge about our world, invites discussion, both around the emotions it gives us and because it connects us to a community of readers. It is to give substance to this exchange that our associated editorial staff are organizing the 4th edition of the Mot pour mots festival, which will be held on June 1 and 2, 2024 in La Villette.
After the writer, filmmaker and theater man Christophe Honoré last year, it is Dominique Blanc, from the Comédie-Française, who is sponsoring the event. The actress knows this festival well, having offered magnificent conferences at each edition since its creation. She repeats the exercise this year by presenting extracts from Memoirs of Hadrian, by Marguerite Yourcenar. For the carte blanche that the festival gives her, she chose to feature women’s voices read by women, members like her of the Comédie-Française. Françoise Gillard, Danièle Lebrun and Léa Lopez will read Annie Ernaux, Simone de Beauvoir and Pauline Peyrade.
Four rooms in La Villette will host meetings with authors acclaimed by both our journalists and readers. Robert Bober, Nina Bouraoui, Sorj Chalandon, Marie Darrieussecq, Tania de Montaigne, Annie Ernaux, Hervé Le Tellier, Deborah Levy, Alice Renard, Lydie Salvayre and Neige Sinno are thus invited…
Novelists designate the wars that devastate our world. The Israeli Zeruya Shalev and the Ukrainian Andreï Kourkov will be present to testify to the power of writing in the face of horror. It is also about history that will be discussed, with Jean Hatzfeld and Beata Umubyeyi Mairesse, bearers of the voice of Rwandans and the memory of the Tutsi genocide. Ideas will also be in the spotlight, with the philosopher Pierre Zaoui or the historians Patrick Boucheron and Emmanuel De Waresquiel. As for poetry, it will be represented by figures as different as MC Solaar, Rim Battal, Simon Johannin, Victor Malzac and Joëlle Sambi. Translation, finally, will be in the spotlight with Eric Boury and Josée Kamoun.
Not to be missed either: a special edition of the Rendez-vous littéraires rue Cambon, a dictation, introductions to screen printing, the presentation of the prize for readers of the libraries of the City of Paris… Without forgetting a rich program for younger: giant puzzle and coloring workshops, storytelling conferences and kamishibaï discoveries, creative workshops for drawing or creating puppets… Happy festival!
