“Amazon’s commercial activity is not immune to geopolitical changes and the new economic situation, marked by the Chinese commercial offensive”

NOTHe is not sheltered from the disorders of the world, nor from the need to embrace them. Amazon is a perfect example. At a conference organized by its division specializing in cloud services, Amazon Web Services (AWS), in Washington, Wednesday June 26, the presentation of the vice president of the public sector division, Dave Levy, was interrupted by Pro-Gaza demonstrators accuse the company of complicity with Israel. The Amazon Web Services activity, which now intends to appeal to public services around the world, touches on the sensitivity of this new subject, far removed from its traditional activity as a merchant. A difficult but very profitable job, it drives the firm’s results and largely explains the explosion in the group’s stock market valuation. The latter has just entered the very exclusive club of companies exceeding 2,000 billion dollars (1,870.3 billion euros) in capitalization. A privilege that he owes to the craze for everything related to artificial intelligence, including the countless AWS data centers.

But its commercial activity also does not escape geopolitical changes and the new economic situation that is taking hold, marked by the Chinese commercial offensive. In its field, it has two names: Shein, the king of discount fashion, and Temu, the Internet superdiscount.

Both change the rules and threaten the American even in his country of origin. That is why, depending on the site Information, Amazon intends to draw inspiration from their model by helping Chinese sellers who use its platform to ship purchased products directly to end customers without going through its American logistics centers. The result is faster delivery and lower prices. A way to regain a foothold in China, at a time when tensions are increasing with the United States. The new globalization promises to be muscular and bumpy.
